Jakarta

Action Special Detachment (Densus) 88 Anti-terror Police Arresting a suspected terrorist of the Jamaah Islamiyah (JI) network with the initials T alias AR in Bekasi, West Java, received serious attention. It is not impossible that there will be retaliation for the arrest of AR, who turned out to be the JI Syuro Council.

If the AR figure is Abu Rusydan, meaning that the arrests made by Densus 88 are serious arrests. Because Abu Rusydan is a senior JI figure who has been traveling around Indonesia as a religious lecturer and motivator.

“If it is true that T alias AR who was arrested by the police is Abu Rusy, it means that the arrest is very serious. This is a very well-known figure in his group,” said terrorism from the University of Indonesia (UI) Ridlwan Habib in a written statement, Sunday (12/9/2021). ).

Abu Rusydan is an alumnus of the second batch of Afghan mujahideen military training in 1990. AR is said to have interacted directly with Osama bin Laden.

“Abu Rusydan trained in the military at Camp Sadda Pakistan and had direct interaction with Osama bin Laden,” said Ridlwan.

After the Bali Bombing 1 incident in 2002, Abu Rusydan was arrested by the police on charges of hiding the suspect Mukhlas. AR then became popular on YouTube after being free.

“After being released, Abu Rusydan preached around Indonesia and was very popular on YouTube. Until now, if you search for Abu Rusydan’s keywords on YouTube, there are a lot of documentation of his lectures. One that is quite viral is Abu Rusydan’s lecture about Pancasila, not Islam,” said Ridlwan.

The arrest of Abu Rusydan is feared to trigger retaliation from his followers. The apparatus was also asked to strengthen security and be more vigilant, because neo-JI was still considered dangerous.

“This senior figure has many online students who in counter-terrorism terms are called lone wolves,” said Ridlwan.

“Even though the neo-JI group has not attacked since 2009, it still has militant people with dangerous skills,” he concluded.
