The Poles advanced to the top eight after two victories in the group stage: over Estonia (20-18) and Slovenia (21-14). The Netherlands waited for them in the 1/4 finals. As the coach of our team, Piotr Renkiel, announced before the event, the promotion to the top four was supposed to be a minimum plan for “Biało-Czerwonych”.
The first minutes of the clash with “Oranje” were very tight. After a while, there was a slight advantage of the rivals who gained a two-point advantage (5-3). There was visible nervousness in the game of the Poles, but fortunately the team was regaining its strength from minute to minute.
Less than three minutes before the end, our team scored two accurate throws for two points, taking the lead (13-10), and after a while Zamojski added two more “eyes”, who scored one point and then scored another one, because he was fouled ( 15-10). There was even a chance for the clash to end ahead of time.
Zamojski was shining with a great throwing form and less than a minute before the end the result of 20-14 appeared on the scoreboard. After a while, we dotted the “i”, winning 21-14.
The squad entered the semi-finals for the first time in history.
