Leiden

Leiden gets its first permanent ‘dementia library’. It is an information point for and about people with dementia. On September 21, on World Alzheimer’s Day, the opening will take place in the BlusC library on Nieuwstraat.

The Dementia Center is an initiative of the Expertise Center for DementiaSamen with the municipality of Leiden and the partnership of care providers in South Holland Noord Transmuralis.

In addition to books and leaflets about dementia, the dementia library will probably also contain special aids. Visitors can obtain information about these tools and try them out before purchasing them for themselves.

There will also be a consultation hour in which an expert in the field of dementia will be present to answer all kinds of questions. This expert can be a ‘dementia case manager’. These are often nurses who are specialized in guiding people with dementia and their loved ones.

book week

In connection with World Alzheimer’s Day, there will be a ‘Dementia Book Week’ from 17 to 24 September. In the public BplusC libraries Nieuwstraat, Merenwijk and Stevenshof there are reading tables with books and information material about dementia. Everyone is welcome to take a look. The more awareness and awareness, the better we can support people with dementia and their loved ones.

The number of people who develop the disease will increase rapidly in the coming years, predicts Alzheimer Nederland. For example, Leiden now has 1600 inhabitants with dementia, but that will be more than 3000 in 2040.

On Tuesday afternoon, September 21, there will be a lifestyle market for seniors on the Dorpsplein in Zoeterwoude, with a focus on dementia.
