“I would like to salute the work of the firefighters who, that day, gave their all. My thoughts are with the families who still suffer from the loss of a father, a husband, a brother, a son, and I would like to acknowledge the courage and dedication of the firefighters of the City of Montreal who crossed the border for go and lend a hand, ”said Mme Plant.

As part of a commemorative event organized by the Montreal Fire Department (SIM), a memorial created by the engraver artist Claude Desmarais, with 343 engraved stars, was unveiled.

This memorial is placed on a display unit, designed by cabinetmaker Guy Labelle, which also houses a structural part from one of the twin towers.

“To the New York firefighters, know that we are with you. Not just the 343 who died that day, but all of those who suffered and died in the days and months and years that followed. Your sacrifices were not in vain, ”said SIM director Richard Liebmann.

He recalled that many Quebec firefighters and rescuers had gone to the scene of the tragedy 20 years ago to offer their help.

“Today, we take a moment to salute the courage and valor of those who voluntarily run into danger and risk their lives to help others,” he added.
