With goals from Campbell and Barco, Atlanta beats Orlando

ATLANTA (AP) – George Campbell and Argentina’s Ezequiel Barco scored goals for Atlanta United to beat Orlando City 3-0 on Friday.

Atlanta has won five of its last six games, a streak that began with four straight wins. He accumulates 30 points, with which he ranks eighth in the Eastern Conference.

Orlando saw a seven-game unbeaten streak snapped, the second-longest in club history. He stayed in 38 points, as second in the conference, only behind the New England Revolution.

Campbell opened the scoring in the 25th minute, with a header, after a pumped pass from Argentine Marcelino Moreno. He achieved his first goal in the MLS.

The 2-0 came in the 38th minute with an own goal by Daryl Dike, who deflected a free kick by Argentine Barco into the nets.

Barco won the race over defenders to hit a long pass from Lennon in the 72nd minute. He dribbled three opponents in the small area and found a gap to define the far post.

In another game, the Portland Timbers beat Vancouver 1-0 on the road Friday with an own goal in the 66th minute that ended the Whitecaps’ 10-game unbeaten streak.

Argentina’s Sebastián Blanco, Timbers forward, started the decisive play by sending the ball into the area. Chilean Felipe Mora controlled the ball and his shot was deflected to goal with one foot by Vancouver defender Ranko Veselinovic.

Portland has won three games in a row and with 33 points is fifth in the Western Conference. Vancouver, eighth with 29 points, failed to overtake Real Salt Lake for the eighth and last available postseason spot in the same conference.

Vancouver carried the club’s record of five straight wins, the last two with Vanni Santini, who took over as interim manager after Marc Dos Santos’ firing on August 27.

The match was part of the Cascadia Cup, a series that only includes Vancouver, Portland and Seattle. It is the first for Cascadia disputed at BC Place since May 10, 2019.
