You would look in vain for the Facebook logo on the glasses themselves, however, Ray-Ban representatives confirmed that Facebook Reality Labs is behind the technical side of the glasses. This is the same division that oversees the development of the Oculus virtual reality headset.

The glasses called Ray-Ban Stories are connected to the smartphone via Bluetooth. Thanks to the built-in speakers and microphones, they can replace wireless headphones for telephony. They can also be used to listen to music from a connected mobile phone.

The biggest advantage, however, is the two cameras, each hidden in one corner of the glasses by the eye. The creators claim that thanks to this, glasses can “capture spontaneous moments of life that take place from a unique first-person perspective.” Images and videos can then be easily shared on social networks via the Facebook View utility, which is installed on a connected mobile phone.

Ray-Ban will offer three basic types of frames – Wayfarer, Round and Meteor, while all designs can be equipped with different types of glass and it will also be possible to choose from different colors. Altogether, more than two dozen different combinations should be available.

In the first wave, sales start in the USA, Great Britain, Canada, Italy, Ireland and Australia. Potential applicants will pay $ 299 (CZK 6,400) for the novelty, but depending on the selected glass and rims, the price may climb even higher.

It is not yet clear when the novelty will go on sale in other countries.
