From July 12 to 29, the first event of the Latvian school youth song and dance festival “dziedundejo2021” Saulesvija “permeated Latvia. Guided by the conditions of the era of a traditional face-to-face event – the procession of marchers in Riga, it took a much longer way.
It is customary for delegations of all Latvian municipalities to go through the center of Riga with their collectives, municipal management, flags and pennants. This time everything was the other way around – the delegations were at home, but the organizers and greeters of the festival stuck with a holiday car and rolling objects – sunbeams.
“Sunflower” was accompanied by a film crew led by director Paul Dombrovskis, who spent 14 days on the road. The short film is like a time capsule, where we can see what challenges the teams faced during their mission, and whether the joy in the eyes and hearts of children is as great as meeting at joint events throughout the week in Riga. The author and producer of the documentary film idea is Dzintars Dreibergs, the editing director is Inese Kļava, cameramen – Reinis Aristovs, Dāvis Doršs and Aleksandrs Okonovs, producer – Ilze Falkovska, film studio “Kultfilma”.
The story of the Song Festival will continue this autumn with the documentary series “Other Song Festival” – in it, in five rechargeable episodes, Māra Sleja will go to the participants of the Song and Dance Festival throughout Latvia.
The documentary “Sunflower. A Different Song Festival March” can also be viewed on LMT Smart TV, in the LMT Straume app and on the Internet.
