AxSí San Fernando doubts that the Teatro de las Cortes remains closed due to the pandemic and the “profitability” of the shows

The spokesperson for AxSí San Fernando, Fran Romero, has questioned that the closure of the Teatro de las Cortes and the absence of autumn-winter programming -which usually appeared on these dates- is due to capacity restrictions and the ” profitability “of the shows in the middle of the pandemic, according to the explanations recently given by the mayor, Patricia Cavada.

“The Theater has never been profitable”, has pointed out the Andalusian mayor. Neither are the sports facilities in South Bay or the municipal markets, he pointed out. “And it is not because culture has always been in this City Council a public service that is offered to the citizenship “, he points out.

In addition, Romero has also questioned the alleged “profitability” of other shows and cultural performances, such as those that throughout the summer have been held at the Castillo de San Romualdo with restrictions and very similar capacity limits to those of the Theater of the Courts who have not prevented a program of activities and concerts.

“The reality is that the Theater is closed by the will of the mayor, Patricia Cavada. I suppose she considers that it is not electorally profitable,” said Fran Romero, lamenting that neither the councilor nor her Councilor for Culture, María José Foncubierta, “did not live up to the culture of the city. ”

In this sense, from AxSí San Fernando it has been recalled that all the theaters in neighboring municipalities, from Jerez, El Puerto de Santa María and Chiclana to the three in Cádiz, remain open and with their programming adapted to Covid standards. “Is La Isla the only theater that is not safe?” Asks Romero, who has also pointed out the staff “that Cavada put on the street” when the Las Cortes Theater closed in December 2020.

“It is a regrettable and shameful situation,” he insisted, also referring to the three axes that, in his opinion, articulate the cultural life of San Fernando: the relationship with the collectives and cultural entities, the programming of the Theater of the Courts and the programming of the 24th September. “Cavada and his Councilor for Culture are suspending all of them,” he says.

He also recalled that on several occasions over the last few months there has been talk of the next tender for the management of the contract and, even, it has been pointed out that the specifications were practically finished. “He has said it in plenary sessions and in some interventions in the media, lying to citizens,” he denounces.
