Former Galatasaray president Duygun Yarsuvat passed away

Former President of Galatasaray, Duygun Yarsuvat, died at the age of 84. Yarsuvat, who was the Rector of Galatasaray University between 2003 and 2008, was elected as the President of Galatasaray on October 25, 2014.

Duygun Yarsuvat, who was elected as the chairman of Galatasaray Club on October 25, 2014 and took over the seat from Ünal Aysal, served in a 210-day transition period. Yarsuvat, who carried out works during the period when the financial problems of the yellow-red club were at the forefront, stated that he would continue his duty until May 2015 when he became a presidential candidate and that he would not be a candidate in the ordinary general assembly.

When the Yarsuvat administration took office, it had to spend a great deal of time, especially in financial matters. Trying to ensure the hot money flow of the club, Yarsuvat and his team obtained additional borrowing authority by holding an extraordinary general assembly, and the high expenditures of the previous president Ünal Aysal were often harshly criticized directly by Duygun Yarsuvat. Yarsuvat had also criticized the staff of the club in order to establish the financial balance.

HE DRAWN A DIFFERENT PROFILE

Duygun Yarsuvat, who is well-known to the Galatasaray community and who also served as the chairman of the council board for a while, drew a different club presidency profile during his administration. Yarsuvat, who removed the tension with the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) during the period of Ünal Aysal and visited the then TFF President Yıldırım Demirören, watched the derby match with Fenerbahçe at Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadium and met with rival managers.

Yarsuvat was also on the agenda with the words “tradition continues” after the Fenerbahçe derby lost 1-0 in Kadıköy.
