Slovak tennis player Filip Polášek and Australian John Peers failed in the semifinals of the men’s doubles at the US Open grand slam.
As the tournament eights, they lost to the seventh British-Brazilian pair Jamie Murray, Bruno Soares 3: 6, 6: 3, 4: 6. The New York champions from 2016 in the final will be the “spider” squares on Friday at 6 pm – American Rajeev Ram and Brit Joe Salisbury.
Polášek did not take the chance to fight for the second grand slam title. In February, he triumphed alongside Croatian Ivan Dodig at the Australian Open in Melbourne after a victory over Ram and Salisbury.
After Wimbledon, they broke up with Dodig and Polášek found a new doubles partner, with whom he advanced to the grand slam final during his fourth joint tournament performance. They take home a joint pre-tax bonus of $ 164,000 from New York. Polášek will keep the post of world doubles nine even after the US Open.
Polášek and Peers did not make it to the beginning of the meeting, when the Slovak doubles specialist lost his service after a double mistake at 1: 1. At 5: 3, Murray and Soares beat their opponents again when Peers passed, and the first set became their prey. The British-Brazilian tandem was sovereign at the service and returned perfectly.
In the second act, however, they took over the baton of the match between Polášek and Peers. In the third and eighth gems, they took the opponents’ hand and forced the third set. Polášek caught on the turn and was the best player on the court. In the decisive set, however, he lost the pass in Tilden’s game at 3: 3, and Murray and Soares have already completed the match.
“It was a very difficult match. Polášek and Peers are very dangerous, which they confirmed in the second set, in which they played for an excellent performance. In the third act it was a couple of balls. I am very pleased that after resuming cooperation with Bruno darí, “ said in the first post-match interview the brother of Andy Murray – a three-time grand slam champion in singles.
