France will provide free contraception for women under 25

The French government will provide free contraception to all women under the age of 25.

The aim is to ensure that young women do not stop using contraception because they cannot afford it.

To reduce the number of abortions among underage girls, last year the French government introduced free contraception for girls under 15 for the first time. Until then, contraceptives were only available free of charge to girls aged 15 to 18 years.

From now on, women under the age of 25 will also have free access to birth control pills, patches or other contraceptives, and doctor visits will be free of charge.

Several European countries, including Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands and Norway, provide free contraception for teenagers.

In the UK, some forms of contraception are free for everyone.
