Liputan6.com, Jakarta Professor of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Indonesia and Member of the ITAGI (Indonesian Technical Advisory Group on Immunization) Expert Advisory Committee, Prof. DR. dr. Soedjatmiko, SpA (K) said that masks are the first bastion of human health protection against the SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes COVID-19.
“Viruses will always exist for all time. To be able to coexist with COVID-19, the main thing is that the virus does not enter our bodies,” said the man who is familiarly called Prof Miko.
One way to prevent the virus from entering the body is to use a mask correctly.
“The way is to comply with health protocols, wear masks correctly, don’t loose them, don’t sag, cover your nose, mouth and chin,” he said in a virtual dialogue between KPCPEN Media Center on September 7, 2021.
The effectiveness of masks in blocking the virus reaches 77-79 percent. Self-protection efforts by using this mask, will be more optimal if accompanied by maintaining distance and washing hands.
Currently, community compliance in carrying out health protocol nationally during PPKM also continues to increase. The average score for compliance with wearing masks, for example, in early July was 7.72. The score rose to 7.88 in the period 20 August-3 September 2021 according to United Against COVID data.
