The accumulated flow of new loans as of July 2021 amounted to 177,984.0 million lempiras, registering a year-on-year growth of 24.0 percent, contrary to the 6.1 percent drop reflected in July 2020, highlighted the preliminary report of the Central Bank of Honduras (BCH).
Of that amount loaned, 34.7 percent was destined for consumption, 24.1 percent for commerce, 12.9 percent for industry, 12.3 percent for services, 10.9 percent for real estate and 5.1 percent for the agricultural sector.
Meanwhile, the balance of credit to the private sector, as of August 26, 2021, was 369,332.9 million lempiras, higher by 12,456.2 million (3.5%) than that registered in
December 2020, means 57.8 percent of nominal Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
The credit owed by private companies reached a balance of 203,383.5 million lempiras, representing 55.1 percent of the total; while the
households registered 165,949.4 million, 44.9 percent of the total.
Credit to the private sector showed a year-on-year increase of 19,105.7 million lempiras, 5.5 percent compared to that registered on the same date in 2020, when it increased 19,161.9 million lempiras (5.8%).
The result for 2021 was derived from the rise in national currency of 12,784.9 million lempiras (5.1%) and in foreign currency by 6,320.8 million lempiras (6.4%).
It was also pointed out that the total credit granted to companies reported an interannual growth of 5.3 percent and to households of 5.6 percent (since the beginning of 2021, greater growth has been observed). Meanwhile, credit in foreign currency to companies increased by 6.5 percent and to households by 6.2 percent.
