England suffers first loss of points in the World Cup qualifying series in the final minute

England coach Gareth Southgate had warned his men about one of Europe’s best strikers, Robert Lewandowski, before the game against Poland. In the last minute he took his moment.

With a measured cross, Lewandowski led in a 1-1 final result in Warsaw. It is the first time in this World Cup qualifying series that European Championship finalist England lost points.

England remain at the top of the group with sixteen points from six matches, ahead of Albania. Poland is third with eleven points from as many matches.

Barely any chances

The Poles put a lot of energy on the mat at home and defended rigidly and organized under the leadership of defender Kamil Glik. An intense but not too good and spectacular match ensued.

The English had slightly the upper hand, but hardly any serious chances were created by either team.
