Apple Moved First, Xiaomi is Now Ruler of the Wearable World

JAKARTA – Talking about wearable devices is not far from the Apple Watch, one of the devices that has become the mecca of wearable technology/devices. But, now Apple’s position as the “master” of the wearable market has shifted.

According to a report from research firm Canalys, Chinese tech giant Xiaomi has finally overtaken Apple as the company that sells the most wearable devices such as smartwatches, True Wireless Stereo (TWS), smartbands, and others. To be precise, it happened in Q2 2021.

What devices allowed Xiaomi to overtake Apple? One of them, through the Mi Smart Band 6, which is selling well all over the world. The smartband device is priced affordable, but has full features. Surprisingly, the mobile leader in China Huawei is in third place. Fitbit and Samsung followed.

In fact, in fact the smartband market in the world is not prime. It has continued to decline since Q4 2020 and continued until the beginning of this year.

What is still improving is the smartwatch. Apple still leads in this category with 31.1 percent market share in Q2 2021. Huawei is in second place with 9 percent market share. Next is Garmin with 7.6 percent market share, Samsung 7 percent, and Xiaomi 5.7 percent.

The wearable market itself grew 5.6 percent in Q2 2021 compared to last year. It is estimated that in Q2 2021 there will be 40.9 million devices shipped. In fact, smartwatches now account for 62 percent of worldwide wearable shipments.

In the future, technology manufacturers will continue to develop smartwatch/smartband features that are increasingly sophisticated and complete.

Apple is also expected to continue to maintain dominance in the wearable market in Q3 and Q4 due to the reduced price of older models and the presence of the Apple Watch series 7.
