Even though the car is electric, has a solid range and comes favorably through the Norwegian tax system, it is absolutely not a matter of course that sales of a brand new luxury car take off here at home.
But that is actually the case for Mercedes’ new, electric flagship, the EQS.
Just two days after the start of sales on 17 August, the newcomer marked the best sales year for the S-Class ever. That was in 2014 and involved around 100 cars.
– We have naturally had high expectations for EQS, but the numbers and pace have exceeded even our most optimistic scenarios. In addition, we have an interest list with a four-digit number of customers we have barely had time to start with.
This was communications director Audun Hermansen in Mercedes Norway, early in commenting.

In just two days, EQS set a new sales record for Mercedes in this segment.

Nicer in reality
Now the first copy of EQS is also in place in Norway. It has been rolling for a week on Norwegian roads, as a demobil at the Norwegian Mercedes importer.
– There is literally an electric atmosphere with us during the day – after the car was shown to our employees. I have been lucky to drive it a few miles already. There is an insane response and many glances to be seen along the road, André Jaskiewicz told Mercedes Norway – in a closed screening of EQS last night.
Here we were also in Broom, excited to see the car for the first time with Norwegian signs.
EQS differs quite clearly from today’s S-Class, with softer and more curved lines. It is no secret that there are mixed opinions about the design. Some people love it, others think it will be too much “soap bar”.
After our encounter with the car, we think it looks better in reality than in photos. The front part in particular appears sharper and more forward-leaning than in the official photos.
Unveiled: Mercedes G-Class becomes electric

There is no doubt that Hyperscreen has become a talking point at EQS. But it may be worth mentioning that this is an option on the EQS 450+. If you choose the EQS 580 4Matic, the screen bonanza is standard.

Delivery will start this autumn
As we also comment in the exclusive the test of EQS from Switzerland, it is only on the inside that you get a little blown off the field.
Here, Mercedes impresses with raw luxury, tough design details and not least Hyperscreen. The latter is admittedly optional, this system involves a total of three screens of a total of 141 centimeters.
We look forward to getting to know this better, when we will soon be testing the car properly on Norwegian roads.
By the way, the first customer deliveries of EQS will take place during the autumn, without Mercedes being able to say anything more exact yet.

This is what it looks like when you select the AMG package. We think the front in particular looks tougher in reality.

Starting price of less than one million
So far, they have presented three different versions of EQS.
The entry-level EQS 450+ has a starting price of 935,000 kroner, and is the model that offers the longest range, up to 780 kilometers. The power is 333 hp and the car delivers 0-100 km / h in 6.2 seconds.
The four-wheel drive version is called EQS 580 4MATIC and has a starting price of 1,162,000 kroner. Here the range is 675 kilometers. The car has 524 hp and manages 0-100 km / h in a quick 4.3 seconds.
Then we have the preliminary top model, signed AMG, which was recently unveiled at the car show in Munich. It’s called Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4Matic +.
This is the first all-electric production model from AMG, and has an output of up to 761 hp. Here, the sprint is from 0-100 km / ten goals in just 3.4 seconds.
