NEW YORK – Starting Tuesday, September 7, the Metropolitan Museum of Art will expand its hours and will be open six days a week.

The Met’s Fifth Avenue location and the Met Cloisters will be closed on Wednesdays only. In addition, from this date the hours of Friday and Saturday nights will also return, the museum announced.

After a months-long shutdown due to the pandemic, the iconic and celebrated museum reopened in August 2020. At that time it was only open to 25 percent capacity. Although that has changed since then, the COVID-19 guidelines remain in effect.

According to its website, museum visitors age 12 and older are required to show proof of vaccination against COVID-19 as mandated by the city. Proof of vaccination may include CDC vaccination card (or photo), NYC COVID Safe app, New York State Excelsior passport, New York City vaccination record, or an official vaccination record from outside of New York City or the US Also, all 2 year old visitors must cover their face. Children under 12 must be accompanied by a vaccinated adult.

The museum’s schedule from September 7 is like this:

From Sunday to Tuesday and Thursday: from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm
Friday and Saturday: from 10:00 am to 9:00 pm
Wednesdays closed
