Britney Spears’ father has urged a Los Angeles court to end financial and personal supervision of his daughter. The now 39-year-old pop star came under her father’s supervision in 2009, at a time when she was in a personal crisis.
In a statement quoted from American media, Spears’ father writes that there have been recent developments that raise the question of whether the need for a curatorship still exists. Britney Spears already appealed to the court this summer to give her back control of her own life.
She wants to have access to her own money and, for example, decide for herself whether and how often she still wants therapy. Her father determined almost everything in recent years. Spears made an emotional statement in court in June, stating that she would like to have a child with her boyfriend, but that she does not have that freedom. “Set me free, let me dispose of my life.”
‘A horror’
Spears’ father reportedly says in the petition to the court that he wants the best for his daughter. If she thinks she can take full control of her life again, she should be given that chance, it says.
At a hearing in July, Britney Spears called the structure she was trapped in for years a horror. She announced that she wanted to take legal action against her father, who allegedly abused the situation. The next court hearing in the case is scheduled for the end of this month.
