Red Cross Whether after an accident, childbirth or for patients with a serious illness – in Austria a blood reserve is required every 90 seconds. That’s almost 1,000 blood products a day. Blood is an important emergency medicine and cannot be produced artificially. You save lives with a blood donation. You can also donate blood at the Autumn Fair – at the Red Cross stand in Hall 15, from Wednesday to Friday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Just come by, donate blood and become a lifesaver.
Every blood donation begins with a questionnaire. This can be used to assess whether you are suitable for donating blood. When donating blood, approximately 465 ml of blood is then taken from the arm vein. This takes an average of seven minutes. The collected whole blood is immediately subjected to safety tests, separated into various components and processed into various blood products. It is then delivered to Austria’s hospitals for patient care, where it saves lives.
