Jakarta (ANTARA) – September is the month of caring for prostate cancer, this is the most common cancer suffered by men.
dr. Shalabh Agrawal, a urologist at CK Birla Hospital, Gurgaon, India said the prostate is the part of the male reproductive organ which is located in front of the rectum. Its function is to secrete fluids that nourish and protect sperm.

“Often, prostate cancer is overlooked because the symptoms include difficulty urinating, burning sensation when urinating and increased frequency of urination. Patients do not notice these symptoms because it is a normal part of aging,” said dr. Agrawal was reported by the Indian Express, Wednesday.
To prevent prostate cancer, dr. Agrawal also provides some tips that can be applied by men.
1. Consuming foods that contain lycopene
Lycopene is an antioxidant found in red foods. Tomatoes are rich in lycopene. Various studies show that lycopenePrevents DNA damage by reducing free radical formation.
2. Stay active
Staying in shape can reduce the risk of prostate cancer. Sports such as jogging, running, cycling and swimming are not only beneficial for physical fitness, but can also reduce the risk of prostate cancer.
Research has shown that physical activity can reverse and prevent the risk of developing cancer.

3. Sexually active
Several studies have shown a direct relationship between ejaculation frequency and prostate cancer. Men who ejaculate more have a lower chance of developing prostate cancer.

4. Ensure a healthy diet with optimal fat
Consuming foods rich in healthy fats such as avocado, olive oil, almonds and walnuts is beneficial in the prevention of prostate cancer. Replacing animal fat with vegetable fat may provide additional benefits because animal protein is associated with an increased risk of prostate cancer.
5. Eat foods that contain Isoflavones
Isoflavones are found in foods such as soybeans, peas, lentils and tofu. The prevalence of prostate cancer was found to be low in Asian men due to their higher intake of isoflavones.
6. Avoid smoking
Smoking is associated with disease recurrence. Patients who smoke frequently will be affected more severely than patients who do not smoke.
One study showed that people with prostate cancer who quit smoking lived nearly a decade longer than people who smoked regularly.
7. Consult a doctor
Early detection of prostate cancer can increase the chances of recovery. Visit a doctor for early signs and symptoms. Details such as a family history of cancer are also important. In addition, difficulty urinating and bleeding when urinating can be signs to get checked out.
