MESA- Fire crews are working to control a hay fire at a dairy farm near Sossaman and Elliot streets Tuesday morning.
The Rural Metro Fire Department reported that firefighters responded to reports of a large hay fire involving about 500 bales of hay at the Arizona Dairy Company.
They are still investigating the causes of the fire on an oil rig near the state of Campeche.
When firefighters arrived at the scene, flames had burned the hay that was stacked about two stories high and weighed about 200 pounds each.
Dairy farm workers helped firefighters control the blaze by using heavy machinery to move hay to the center of the fire and keep it away from structures.
No injuries have been reported, according to authorities.
Firefighters detailed that the fire was likely caused by spontaneous combustion of hay, while recent rains and high temperatures may have contributed to its spread.
The fire is expected to burn for the next two to three days as fire crews continue to monitor it.
The winds and the condition of the terrain have complicated the work of mitigating the fire.
