Volkswagen aims to say goodbye in a progressive way to one of the historic components present inside a car. The road seems to be marked.
The new models of auto that are arriving on the market are now becoming more and more efficient and able to ensure maximum comfort for those who get on board even in the smaller models. Volkswagen however, it seems to be willing to take a step further than the competition: the cars of the German car manufacturer, in fact, will no longer have the manual gearbox on board.
The process, as reported by the newspaper Auto Motor Und Sport, will be gradual. In fact, we will leave from 2023 to 2030, the year in which the vehicles of the brand will be equipped exclusively with automatic gearbox. The move will also affect cars SPORTS, a category in which it is usually preferred to keep the manual to give the feeling to those who start driving that they can manage the machine according to their needs.

Volkswagen says goodbye to manual gearbox: the decision of the automaker
One of the main reasons that led the Wolfsburg company to this decision is economic. The German brand, in fact, is destined, like the competition, to focus on electric models, which however have higher production costs. This inevitably pushes the company to reduce expenses in other areas.
Among the companies of the group that could first follow this trend there could be Audi. The house of the four rings has already announced its intention produce exclusively electric cars starting from 2026.
