The closure caused traffic delays in Nijmegen. Traffic that wanted to enter the city could not cross the Waalbrug and had to use the other city bridge, De Oversteek. Traffic going the other way, out of town, was able to cross the bridge, but was then routed through the village of Lent. The delay was more than half an hour in both directions at around 5.15 pm. At its peak, traffic was delayed for more than an hour. Traffic from the direction of Germany on the N325 in the direction of Nijmegen was also affected.
