Max Cavalera has said Soulfly fans will likely have to wait until next year to listen to the group’s twelfth album. The Brazilian-born musician and his fellow students have spent the last few months working on the 2018 sequel to Ritual at the Platinum Underground in Phoenix, Ariz., With producer Arthur Rizk, who previously worked with Cavalera Conspiracy, Power Trip and Code Orange.

Last month, Soulfly has separated from his guitarist Marc Rizzo for personal reasons. A permanent replacement guitarist has yet to be announced. Dino Cazares of Fear Factory plays guitar for Soulfly during the current US tour. The 33 date tour will conclude in Tempe, Arizona on September 25.
In June 2020, Soulfly released a new live album, Live Ritual NYC MMXIX. The opus was recorded at the Gramercy in New York City on February 11, 2019, while Soulfly was on tour for their latest album, Ritual. Live Ritual NYC MMXIX was mixed and mastered by Charles Elliott (Abysmal Dawn) of Tastemaker Audio. The cover is a patchwork of photos taken on stage by Rodrigo Fredes.
Ritual was released in October 2018 via Nuclear Blast. This opus, which followed Archangel (2015), was produced, recorded and mixed by Josh Wilbur (Lamb Of God, Gojira).
