“The health pass in hospitals is a measure introduced to reduce the circulation of the virus. The objective is to contain the virus to prevent its spread and mutation and reduce the risk of epidemics, ”said Francis Saint-Hubert, director of the Department of Vendée hospital center.
As in all hospitals, the obligation of health pass – complete vaccination course or antigenic test negative – applies to La Roche-sur-Yon and in the establishments of the joint direction of Vendée.
It is about “protecting patients and staff”.
“People understand”
To do this, the hospital, overheating this summer due to the influx of tourists, has already taken measures to control entry.
“We recruited and trained staff to control the main entrance and the two ancillary entrances”, indicates the director of the CHD, who insists on the educational logic and awareness that has been put in place.
“Over 95% of people understand. They spontaneously present their health pass to us. And then we are in Vendée, we are at the head of the best vaccinated territories. “
“The hospital is there to treat”
Until now, a tolerance margin was applied, even if for many patients, nothing has changed: for scheduled activities, everyone must take their precautions upstream, for operated patients, antigen tests are carried out before starting. ‘enter the OR.
As for emergencies, “obviously, we take care of them while encouraging them to be vaccinated if they are not yet. The hospital is there to treat. “
As of next week, the regulations will tighten.
For patients, accompanying persons and visitors, the pass will be systematically required.
“There will always be an assessment specific to each situation, nuances the director, but that will be the rule. ”
90% of non-vaccinated in shifts
And for good reason, the finding is clear to the CHD: 90% of patients in intensive care for Covid are not vaccinated.
“And among the vaccinated patients, all have comorbidities or immunosuppressive pathologies”, specifies Francis Saint-Hubert.
The intensive care unit has fluctuated for a month between 7 and 9 patients with Covid-19. “Clearly, the 4th wave is here, but truly contained by the vaccination. When we superimpose the map of France of the sheave and the vaccination, it is clear ”, underlines Francis Saint-Hubert to the management of the hospital.
“The hospital cannot employ unvaccinated people”
On September 15, the last step – the most controversial – of this health barrier against the virus will be applied: the vaccination obligation of nursing staff.
“The hospital cannot employ people who are not vaccinated. “
There will be no dismissal, but salary suspensions for staff without a pass.
“The vaccination obligation is not new to the hospital. Some vaccines are already mandatory to work there. “
Hospital management ensures that 85% of staff received their two doses at the La Roche, Luçon and Montaigu sites. 7 to 8% are in the process of being vaccinated and 9% of the agents (ie 400 out of 5000 employees) have not yet made known their vaccination status.
“Of the 5,000 agents, less than 10 express their refusal to be vaccinated. We met them in an interview, some change their minds, still hesitate, others will take the opportunity to retrain. It is a new challenge that is before us ”, underlines the director of the CHD, at a time when the staff shortage is still significant.
