Hurray, hurray, the school is running – the “European Week of Sports 2021”, which the Frankfurt Sports Association as the leading organization for the whole city, has exciting, free offers in September under the motto #BeActive, not least for KiTas and schools. For the fifth time now, the city of Frankfurt am Main is taking part in the Europe-wide action week (23 to 30 September). The concept of the sports group – in addition to the two locations in the harbor park at the ECB and in the factory sports hall in Fechenheim – relies on a decentralized concept in the districts in order to bring sport to the people.
“#BeActive School” forms an important component with two campaigns for all age groups and grades: “On foot to school / KiTa” (from September 13th to 24th) and the “School Action Days” (from September 23rd to 30th) . “Even the way to school or kindergarten can be full of movement,” says Sven Trinkaus, project manager at the Frankfurt sports district. “That is why the children are invited on ten days of action to actively cover the route – that is, on foot, by bike or scooter to school or kindergarten and to document this. Parents, supervisors and teaching staff are of course allowed to take part. ”And Trinkaus adds with a smile:“ Being brought in by car is not an active contribution. ”The preparations have long been underway. Clubs and other organizations can already register with the Sportkreis for the “School Action Days” if they want to organize a program at a school. Schools can then “book” their desired activity from the pool of offers. Registration as well as the booking of the offers takes place via the website https://beactive-frankfurt.de.
The organizers (including the state of Hesse, the city of Frankfurt, the German Gymnastics Association and the Frankfurt Sports District in the lead) urge all Frankfurt schools and schools in neighboring districts to take up the basic idea of the “European Week of Sports” and to use it
to motivate the action to more regular exercise and sport.
The tried and tested concept of last year, in which the clubs come directly to the schools, will be continued, also in order to optimally implement all Corona measures. For the groups or classes, the offer includes getting to know club sports, using motor skills and movement in a playful way and always doing something for your head. So that as many schools as possible have the chance to participate, each school can initially only register for one offer. Last year, 68 classes with around 1,400 children were set in motion during the school action days. “Of course we want to grow steadily and arouse sustained enthusiasm for sport,” says Trinkaus.
In “Walk to School / KiTa” there are two “defending champions” from 2020: the Hartmutschule in Eschborn and the Evangelical Kita of the Riedberg community in the Frankfurt district of Riedberg. Ulla Hieronymi, the teacher responsible for sports activities at the Ebelfeld School in the Praunheim district, has already gained experience with the campaign: “It is important not just to tell the children to run, but to include the topic of exercise and health in the classroom as a whole . The project of the sports group is good and easy to implement for us. We’ve had busy classes recently, and a trophy that wanders through the classes shows what has been achieved. We are happy to be there again and hope that many others will also participate. “
“We would like to offer the great, free sports participation campaign for as many classes as possible, which can certainly be wonderfully integrated into the planning shortly before the autumn holidays,” says Trinkaus, the project manager of the sports group. And Roland Frischkorn, chairman of the sports group, which represents over 400 clubs, also addresses an important point: “As an organized sport, we have every reason to make an effort, as we lost 10,000 members in the pandemic, especially among children and young people. The clubs in the districts should be strengthened and motivated to take part in the European Week in order to be able to win back members. “
The Sportkreis Frankfurt and its clubs have a big idea right in the middle of the city: Since 2015, the European Commission has been calling on all Europeans to exercise more, to be diverse and permanently active. Current studies show that fewer and fewer people are doing sports across Europe. This trend not only has a negative impact on individual health, well-being and cohesion, it also has far-reaching consequences for society as a whole and is slowing down development in Europe.
