Beware of Afghanistan Civil War, Burst Attacks Against the Taliban

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Fierce fighting was reported in the Panjshir Valley, Afghanistan North, Sunday (5/9/2021). The shootings took place between the Taliban and anti -group fighters, the National Resistance Front (NRFA).

The Panjshir Valley region is the only one of Afghanistan’s 34 provinces that remains outside Taliban control, even though the group took control of the country since February 15. The Panjshir Valley is a strategic mountainous region rich in natural resources, about 90 miles north of Kabul.

Taliban spokesman Balel Kareemi said NRFA forces had captured all districts in the province. “Except for the district capitals of Bazarak and Rokha, which remain under NRFA control,” he was quoted as saying CNN International, Monday
(6/9/2021).

He said a number of parties from the NRFA were killed in the fighting, including their commanders. He said the Taliban hope to control the Panjshir Valley as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, NRF spokesman Fahim Dashti tweeted the opposite. “The Pasryan district in the Panjshir Valley has been completely cleared of the Taliban,” he said.

According to him, it was the Taliban who were the victims. He also said there were 1,000 Taliban troops trapped.

“At least 1,000 terrorists were trapped because their exit was cut off. All attackers were killed, surrendered or captured by local residents with the help of resistance fighters (NRFA) as they fled and retreated,” he tweeted.

Previously the possibility of civil war had been warned by the United States (US). The US Joint Chiefs of Staff General Mar Milley also highlighted the growing tensions in Afghanistan.

“Our military estimates that the situation has the potential to develop into a civil war. I don’t know if the Taliban can consolidate power and have a stable government,” he was quoted as saying. Reuters.

When the Taliban came to power from 1996 to 2001, the Panjshir Valley was never controlled by the Taliban. The region itself has seven districts and 512 villages.
