Four people, including a baby, died this Sunday, September 5, in a strange shooting in Polk County, in western Florida (USA), when a man who claimed to be “a survivor” fired at several houses, reported the US authorities.
Polk County Sheriff, Grady Judd, said that the suspect, who was arrested after being injured in the confrontations with the authorities, was dressed in camouflage, with a bulletproof vest and said that he had come for a “shooting”.
The attack occurred at dawn this Sunday when the man, who has not been identified, fired at several houses in the same area of the city of Lakeland, the officer detailed.
An 11-year-old girl who is being treated at the Tampa General hospital was also injured with multiple shots, according to authorities.
The sheriff’s office received several calls about an active shooter around 4.30am (1.30 GMT).
Officers, Lakeland Police and elite US Police (SWAT) units responded to the area near Fulton Greed Road in Lakeland.
“The officers were attacked when they came near a residence,” Sheriff Judd explained. In addition, he detailed that they fired about 100 rounds between the suspect and the agents.
The individual, who surrendered after being shot, was taken to the Lakeland Regional Health Medical Center to receive treatment.
Judd noted that two separate shootings occurred “in a short time” before the suspect surrendered.
