“Not primarily pious, but life-oriented,” describes Pastor Dr. Jörg Ettemeyer the films in the “Churches and Cinema” series. It kicks off the new season on Monday, September 13th with the film “Undine”.
Altenhundem – They are extraordinary films that revolve around topics such as “love, hope, loyalty, devotion, trust, suffering, dying, hopelessness, despair, longing for life and love”, according to the announcement. These are also core issues of the Christian faith. For example, it is about a young man who, after his release from prison, slips into the role of a Polish village pastor, or a young person who has become pregnant unintentionally and leaves her rural home for New York in order to terminate the pregnancy there. “The New Gospel” deals with the question “What would Jesus preach if he lived today” – a refugee from Africa slips into the role of Jesus.
The series shows eight films, once a month, on Mondays at 8 p.m., at an entrance price of 5 euros.
“Churches and Cinema” has existed in Lennestadt since 2003 – a successful collaboration between the Protestant parish of Lennestadt / Kirchhundem, the Catholic adult and family education in Olpe and the Lennestadt cinema in Altenhundem.
New partner on the Catholic side
The team “behind the scenes” presented the new films at a press conference in the cinema. Pastor Dr. Jörg Ettemeyer. He has been with us since 2006 and is convinced of the series “Church is also interested in what happens outside”. It is about society and not primarily about church issues.
Siegfried Nüsse has been on the Catholic side from the start. The 76-year-old is now quitting for health reasons, but will certainly stay the series as a spectator.
The Catholic part is now taken over by “Bildpunkt Lennestadt” – a team of volunteers under the umbrella of Catholic adult and family education. Ansgar Kaufmann was on site for the image point. Siegfried Nüsse is happy that things will continue, that a partner has been found in the pixel who will take over. At the same time, he praised the “wonderful collaboration” with Meinolf Hanses and Christin Cordes from the Lennestadt cinema.
Christin Cordes is happy and grateful that things are starting again after the Corona break, because last year “churches and cinemas” also had to be canceled. The theater had to close for eight months in a row, three months during the first lockdown.
Start after lockdown
Now the “Churches and Cinema” series can start again, with a short introduction before the film. The films themselves are selected by the Catholic Academy in Schwerte. It is a supraregional partner, the film series runs in 25 locations in North Rhine-Westphalia and Lower Saxony. Attendorn may also be there again next year.
