The migration crisis on the border with Belarus may accelerate the adoption of a common European refugee policy. This was stated by the Deputy Chairman of the European Commission Margaritis Schinas during his visit to Lithuania on Saturday, September 4.
This situation shows that “now is the time to create a predictable and comprehensive European framework for migration policy,” he said.
According to Shinas, it is time to move from the regime of “extinguishing fires” in the issue of refugees to the creation of a single “architecture” according to the rules for their reception and distribution. The latest proposals from the European Commission in this regard have been postponed due to the coronavirus crisis.
“From Evros to Ceuta and right up to the border with Belarus. Those who try to instrumentalize migration will be disappointed,” added the European Commissioner.
