Midagri launches campaign to support family farming with alternative fertilizers | News

From the province of Acobamba, in Huancavelica, the country’s first organic region, the Minister of Agrarian Development and Irrigation, Víctor Maita Frisancho, launched the National Campaign in support of Family Farming with the use of alternative fertilizers in 12 regions, in order to to counteract the rise in fertilizer prices and promote organic family farming with high yields.

This, as part of the actions carried out by the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation, through Agro Rural, to contribute to the economic reactivation of agriculture in rural areas, thus prioritizing vulnerable populations, at the same time, that it is empowered and promotes organic agriculture, which is why the launch was made from Huancavelica.

“This initiative consists of facilitating access to a total of 1,300 tons of guano from the additional islands at a social or subsidized price in these 12 regions. In addition to providing technical assistance to the beneficiaries, for the proper use of guano from the islands with alternative fertilizers such as chicken manure, mainly phosphates, bioles, among others ”, said Roxana Orrego Moya, executive director of the new Agro Rural.

The official added that this initiative will benefit more than 44,000 families dedicated to family farming in 53 provinces and 98 districts of Huancavelica, Ayacucho, Junín, Cusco, Puno, Arequipa, Cajamarca, La Libertad, Ancash, Huánuco, Pasco and Lime.

For this, the new Agro Rural will be in charge of 363 Field Schools (ECA), where technical assistance will be provided to 10,000 producers to turn them into promoters in practices related to land preparation, fertilization and fertilization in the different agricultural value chains , agroforestry and silvopastoral with guano from the islands combined with alternative fertilizers.

Only in Huancavelica 900 tons of guano from the islands have been designated, 600 additional tons to those designated in previous years. Likewise, they have increased to 5 distribution points of this organic fertilizer in the region to facilitate its access at a subsidized price (Tayacaja, Acobamba, Pampas, Angaraes, Churcampa). And in the province of Acobamba, 60 tons of guano have been designated from the additional islands.

During the launch of this campaign, 2 tractors were also delivered, in cession of agricultural use for the provincial municipality of Acobamba and 1 tractor for the district of Paucará.

Participatory workshops for rural women

At another time, Minister Víctor Maita Frisancho participated in the beginning of participatory workshops framed within the framework of the agreement signed between the PDTS VRAEM of Agro Rural and Conveagro, which seeks the development of rural women in family farming, in the VRAEM’s sphere of influence: Ayacucho, Huancavelica, Junín, Apurímac and Cusco.

To this end, it is expected to provide technical assistance to local governments and implement a local gender equality agenda; in addition, to design an action plan for equality in peasant and native communities, as well as to promote the participation of national unions to strengthen social processes in the intervention areas.
