Destroyed homes, workshops, shops and cars. Residents of New York and New Jersey are uncovering damage caused by a large body of water that no one was prepared for.
Lightning floods are responsible for over thirty lives in this area alone. In New Jersey, most people drowned when water unexpectedly flooded their cars.
“I’ve lived here for 40 years and I’ve never experienced anything like it. I’ve seen flooded cars, heard people crying and calling for help. Then firefighters on ships came and tried to help our neighbors meet and save them,” said New Jersey resident Jennifer. Vilchez.
While people count the damage and remove the destroyed property, the authorities continue to look for possible victims and identify the dead. Water from extreme rains continues to threaten at least four million people. Flood warnings still apply.
The President of the United States Joe Biden went to the flooded areas. After Louisiana and New Orleans, he plans to determine the extent of the damage in New Jersey, Philadelphia and New York. He promised everyone quick help.
“I know you’re suffering a lot now. Hurricane Ida has clearly reminded us that we need to be prepared. I want you to know that we are here for you. Not only do we have to rebuild it here, but we need to do better,” Biden said.
Hurricane Ida first hit the states of Louisiana and Alabama. There, however, the locals managed to partially prepare for the destructive element, because meteorologists warned the inhabitants in time. Then, like a storm that brought extreme rains and flash floods, it moved just over New Jersey and New York, where it did much more damage.
