The statement was made by a Qatari Foreign Ministry official on Friday (3/9).
“Qatar is engaging with the Taliban to ensure a peaceful transition of power to an inclusive and effective government,” said Qatar’s Special Envoy Mutlaq bin Majed Al-Qahtani.

“Al-Qahtani arrived in Kabul on Friday (3/9) to hold talks on forming an inclusive Afghan government and reopening Kabul airport,” said a Qatari source with knowledge of the visit.

The Gulf state has emerged as the main interlocutor with the Taliban, having hosted the Taliban group’s political office since 2013.
