Apple has postponed measures against child pornography after criticism

Apple said last month that a device would be placed on U.S. users’ iPhones and computers to search for photos of child abuse. Critics immediately began to argue that the tool could be misused by authoritarian governments to spy on its citizens and search for evidence for their arrest.

In recent years, Apple has enticed customers to protect their data and resisted any attempt to circumvent its encryption system. The company assured that the system would not be less secure due to the new algorithms.

Originally, the new feature on iPhones, iPads and Macs belonging to US users was supposed to start working this year after the software update.

Snowden also protested

An open letter against its introduction was signed by several non-profit organizations and over 7,700 private people. A former collaborator of the American secret services and the so-called whistleblower Edward Snowden also added his signature, the AFP agency wrote.
