Lawyer demands to have the case of Birgitte Tengs’ cousin resumed

Birgitte Tengs’ cousin was first convicted, but was later acquitted in the criminal case after the murder in 1995. He was still sentenced to pay compensation to the cousin’s parents.

– That verdict can not stand, so simple it is, says lawyer Arvid Sjødin to TV 2 and says they will demand to have the case resumed.

The verdict against the cousin has never been overturned, even though Norway suffered a defeat in the case in the Human Rights Court in Strasbourg. Last year, the Supreme Court refused to reconsider the sentence.

The case is now before the UN Human Rights Council.

– The point is that there is no evidence against the cousin. It is further reinforced now that they have arrested another, says Sjødin.
