The Minister of Health of the City of Buenos Aires, Fernán Quirós, confirmed that as of this Friday about 108 thousand shifts will be sent for all the porteños who applied the first dose of Astrazeneca and they have already completed the 56-day period, which is what is expected between the two doses for the vaccine developed by the University of Oxford.
“From today until Tuesday we will be sending the invitation to the shift for all those who have already completed 56 days since the application of the first dose of Astrazeneca,” reported Quirós, in the health part that provides every morning.
Is about 108,000 doses to be applied on Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, as expected by the Buenos Aires authorities.
This Friday, the City will continue to apply doses of Modern to complete the schemes of those who applied Sputnik and prioritized adolescents. Starting Tuesday, shifts will be sent to complete the vaccination schedules of Sinopharm and those who took Sputnik and have already completed 90 days will continue to be summoned.
“Today he is being vaccinated with Moderna as a second dose, we are also completing schedules with the second component of Sputnik V, a second dose of Sinopharm, and completing schedules with Moderna for prioritized adolescents; tomorrow we will continue with a second dose of Sinopharm,” Quirós explained.
First and second doses
In the City of Buenos Aires, the 93 percent of people over the age of 18 received at least the first dose, while only 46 completed the schedule with the two immunizations.
In relation to the number of daily cases, Quirós pointed out that the average of the City of Buenos Aires is 300 notifications per day; while the positivity rate (confirmed on tests performed) is 2.8 percent, “the lowest since the start of the pandemic.”
Herd immunity
“When countries reach 70 percent of its citizens with double dose community transmission drops critically and the number of patients who come to intensive care is infinitely smaller ”, explained the Minister of Health, for whom this milestone in the vaccination plan will be reached during September.
In this sense, Quirós tried to avoid talking about the so-called herd immunity since he considers that this concept is in doubt for covid-19 due to its high level of mutation. “It is a virus with high rates of mutation, which changes contagiousness and has a very high level of escape from acquired immunity,” he added.
Elections and health protocol
Asked about the elections, the official confirmed that “the indication is that tAll people who were in close contact or are suffering from the disease cannot go to vote ” and encouraged those who are not in that situation to calmly approach to vote.
“We have developed a protocol that allows safe voting” with measures such as the expansion of polling places and priority for people aged 70 and over who will pass without queuing, he concluded.
