The risk of kidney damage in Covid-19 patients could arise after recovery, according to the study.

GridHEALTH.id – A number of Covid-19 patient reported experiencing kidney problems after being declared cured.
The report revealed a study published in Journal of American Society of Nephrology.
Even kidney problems are also experienced Covid-19 patient who do not experience symptoms when infected, aka people without symptoms (OTG).
Reported from Bloomberg (1/9/2021), the study explains that injuries to the blood filtering organs can occur among people who are self-isolating at home.
And this risk increases with the severity of the Covid-19 infection experienced.
Moreover, it is also mentioned that although Covid-19 patient who are self-isolating without symptoms and previous kidney problems, they were twice as likely to develop end-stage kidney disease, compared to someone who had never had Covid-19.
This problem is because problems that occur in the kidneys often cannot be identified early on.
The data in the report shows 7.8 people per 10,000 Covid-19 patient with mild to moderate symptoms have serious kidney problems.
This was revealed by Ziyad Al-Aly, director of the center for clinical epidemiology at the Louis Health Care System in Missouri, who also led the research team, Wednesday (1/9/2021).

“It’s not a small number, if you multiply by the large number of Americans and also globally that might end up with end-stage kidney disease,” he said.
“It’s really big, and it’s really going to define our lives for maybe the next decade or so.”
In April, Al-Aly and his team collected data collected during routine care from the Veterans Health Administration (VA).
The data was used to document the series of debilitating effects that plague Covid survivors months after diagnosis.
Some of the problems in the data ranging from blood clots, stroke, diabetes. and difficulty breathing to heart, liver and kidney damage, depression, anxiety and memory loss.
As is known, some of these problems can also attack Covid-19 survivors who do not feel symptoms when infected.
This problem also contributes to the complaints experienced by long Covid sufferers.
Al-Aly’s recent study compared the risk of kidney-related conditions in 89,216 VA users who survived Covid with more than 1.7 million people without Covid-19.
“What is really problematic about kidney disease is that it is completely silent, not really manifesting in pain or other symptoms,” said Al-Aly, who also works as a nephrologist.
His findings are enough to add to the long list of health problems that can be caused by Covid-19.
Covid-19 patients who were not hospitalized had a 23% increased risk of suffering from acute kidney injury within six months.
Acute injuries are usually associated with conditions that impede the removal of wastes and toxins from the blood.
Doctors treating Covid-19 survivors should also be aware of the wide spectrum of kidney disease among these patients, according to Al-Aly.
He asked doctors to include the possibility of kidney problems in Covid-19 patients or Covid-19 survivors.
This is so that the doctor can carry out the much-needed initial checks.
“If this is really happening on a wider scale, and we think it is, it’s only a matter of time before we see all these people coming into the clinic, needing dialysis, needing transplants which puts a lot of burden on the patient,” he said.
“It’s also going to be really, really expensive for the health care system,” he said.
