Today, on September 3, the International Documentary Film Festival Artdocfest / Riga screenings will start at the Splendid Palace cinema.
For a whole week from 3 to 9. From September 1, September, viewers will have the opportunity to watch 30 films from various corners of the world, as well as the European Film Academy Award-nominated “Gorbachev. Paradise ”out of competition. The film’s director Vitalijs Manskis is also the president of the festival Artdocfest / Riga.
The September film screenings are organized as “returning the debt to the audience” because the festival had to be postponed and restricted several times due to the pandemic and the general public did not have the opportunity to watch the film in the cinema.
The festival has two competition programs “Artdocfest” – films from all over the world, with a deeper focus on Eastern Europe and “Baltic Focus” – films from the Baltic States and co-produced with them.
Festival winners and film directors from France, Belgium, Lithuania, Ukraine, Germany and Estonia will also come to the screenings to present their films to the audience, meet with media representatives and receive the prizes they have earned.
Latvia is represented at the festival by Ivo Briežis’ film “Homo Sovieticus” and Elīna Lange-Ionatamishvili’s “Restless Memories”, which won the main prize “Baltic Focus” HERCS – both produced by the studio Mistrus Media, as well as Giedre Žickīte’s film “Leap” co-produced with Lithuania and France. co-produced by VFS Film (Latvia) and which won the “Baltic Focus” award HERCS for best direction.
