SF explodes in the eighth and retakes the lead

SAN FRANCISCO – Thairo Estrada hit a three-run homer in a four-run eighth inning for San Francisco and the Giants beat the Brewers 5-1 on Thursday to avoid losing the four-game series on a sweep.

A day after falling from first place for the first time since May 30, the Giants (85-49) now returned to the top tied in the NL West with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Austin Slater also connected and Loga Webb pitched seven fiery innings.

San Francisco has lost four in a row.

Milwaukee (82-53) wasted a great performance by Eric Lauer, who pitched seven 3-hit innings. The leaders of the National League Central had won four in a row.

Darin Ruf gave the Giants the ultimate lead with an RBI double when he had two outs off Devin Williams in the eighth. Estrada followed with his hit to reach four homers.
