Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The wave of Covid-19 infections in Malaysia is still raging. On Thursday (2/9/2021), the neighboring country again recorded daily infections above the level of 20 thousand cases by finding 20,988 corona infections.
Citing Channel News Asia, the state of Selangor contributed the most to the daily caseload with 4,073 infections. The next highest figures were Sarawak and Kedah reporting 2,992 and 2,455 cases, respectively.
This spike in infections has caused the country’s health facilities to be overwhelmed with average ICU capacity having crossed the 90% mark. Even in the state of Sabah, ICU capacity has exceeded 126%.
Apart from Sabah, Kedah and Perak have also crossed the 100% mark with ICU capacity at 121% and 107% respectively. Several other states are also reported to have almost penetrated 100%.
“Selangor has 99% capacity while Johor has reached 95% capacity,” said Health Director General Noor Hisham Abdullah.
Meanwhile, Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said that his party was considering implementing a national testing policy if Covid-19 had become endemic.
In this policy, the community will be able to carry out their own tests without the need to go to a health facility.
In addition, Khairy also said that his party wanted to make testing more affordable and more accessible and added that the cabinet had agreed to set the highest price for rapid test kits.
“By the end of October we will reach the endemic threshold point where we have to start looking at living with the virus,” he said.
Citing Worldometers, Malaysia’s total Covid-19 cases since the pandemic have been recorded at 1,786,004. Where there were 17,191 deaths recorded during the corona virus attack.
