Tourism opens the door to the collection of tickets to visit the castle of Santa Bárbara | Radio Alicante | Present

The Board of the Municipal Tourist Board has approved this Monday a package of aid to the sector for 1.3 million and the new management contract for two years of the castle of Santa Bárbara. Something that the opposition has already criticized. They believe that what the bipartisan is pursuing is the privatization of the two castles in Alicante.

The extraordinary Board of this Monday has given the green light to aid for one million euros for the Reactive Plan II of the sector and for 300,000 euros for Valencian companies that promote Alicante as a tourist destination.

Regarding the management of the castle of Santa Bárbara, the mayor of the area, Mari Carmen Sánchez, points out that this new contract will serve to energize the fortress and have activities throughout the year to seasonally adjust tourism.

Criticisms of the opposition

However, from the opposition they disagree with the benefits of this new contract. The spokesman for United We Can, Xavi López, criticizes that the City Council is going to pay more than 800,000 euros a year to a company to commercially exploit the assets of all Alicante residents.

He also warns that this outsourcing comes before the Castle Uses Master Plan, which has not even been put out to tender, so that the contract could be overthrown later by the Master Plan if it is understood that it violates the fortress’s assets.

From the coalition they also warn that the specifications of this new contract slide that entry could be charged for accessing the fortress since, among the functions of the staff, it states that they must control the access of visitors and the sale of tickets.

Meanwhile, in Compromís, its spokesman Natxo Bellido regrets the state in which the fortress is currently located and that it has been lost all summer to enhance the tourist attraction of one of our main heritage sites.
