Their wish for a family was strong, but it did not come true on its own. “We wanted children pretty soon, but we didn’t want to do that so quickly,” says Kim. Their eldest two sons were born through IVF. “At a certain point it will take over your life,” says Jaap about the difficult process. “You only talk about that and are constantly working on it.”

the little Ted, who was born earlier this year, is therefore a ‘gift’. Still, it was a bit of a shock when Kim turned out to be pregnant. She says: “A lot of people probably think: ‘Wow, that must have been the most beautiful moment on earth because you got two with IVF’, but it was mainly a lot of disbelief.”
In addition, the model was afraid how Jaap would react, because he did not want a third child. “Jaap looked at that test and was completely upset,” she recalls. “We had to find each other again. It was very intense for a while, because it was also a very difficult decision for Jaap to consciously choose a third.”

Kim is also very candid about her bullying past in the broadcast opposite Art and says that as a child she did not even dare to look in the mirror. “I was very insecure and found it very scary to look at myself like that, because I only saw things that others could fall over.”
The past still haunts her and the mother of three hopes that her own children never have to go through this: “It’s not like that. fair that someone tells you that. (…) No matter how powerful that other person is, they should not determine your life.”
