During an appearance in the last episode of Metal edge magazines “Another FN Podcast”, old QUEENSRŸCHE singer Geoff Tate shared his thoughts on the recent passing of Charlie Watts, drummer and main member of THE ROLLING STONES over the past six decades,
“For me, he was the benchmark”, Geoff said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET). “THE STONES really represent the benchmark of what you can achieve and what you can expect, in a sense, as a musician. As long as they still do, I can do it. A lot of guys my age, that was sort of the mantra we’d say, ‘If Keith [Richards, THE ROLLING STONES guitarist] do it, I can do it. He is 80 years old. [Laughs] So with Charlie by the way, man, it’s like starting to see your own mortality on the horizon. So, it was a sobering experience for me. I actually started looking at my life very carefully when I heard this news and making sure I got on that treadmill every day and got out and up the mountain several times a week to keep myself up. . [in shape], so at least I can go up to 80. I want to go that far. I want to keep doing this as long as possible.
“I’m sad to see him go” Tate added. “Tome, THE ROLLING STONES were the biggest rock and roll band in the world. And I am devastated. ”
WattsThe press secretary said he “passed away peacefully” on August 24 “in a London hospital surrounded by his family”.
Charliedeath came just a few weeks later THE ROLLING STONES announced that Watts would miss several tour dates in the United States as he recovered from an unspecified medical procedure.
The 12-date “No filter” tour would take place as planned, with Steve Jordan socket Watts‘s place.
Even if Watts was not a founding member of THE STONES, he had been part of the group since January 1963.
He battled throat cancer in 2004, but got the go-ahead after undergoing two operations.
