The Llanquihue Lake basin is committed to being a creative destination. Where the avant-garde tourism offer allows you to discover the local culture by participating in artistic and creative activities promoted by local experiences, that is the proposal of the Conservatory of Music and Fine Arts of Puerto Varas (Combas), which today works to strengthen the profession of the luthería, the art of making musical instruments.
“From the beginning of Combas we have always dreamed of integrating a luthery wing into the project, not only because of the creative industries, but also because of the art of this trade”, declares Jean Paul Harb, pianist and director of the school.
A key piece for the Conservatory is early music. In this sense, he explains that it was essential to meet an expert luthier in the Baroque period, but also someone interested in finding local sounds through instruments and their raw materials.
Thus, in the midst of the pandemic, Víctor Correa arrived, who heads the area that also integrates the creative tourism offer of the Integrated Territorial Program (PTI) Creative Destination Lake Llanquihue, promoted by Corfo together with actors from the public, private and civil society, with the intention of training children, youth and adults in the area, but also to manufacture instruments and parts of these with materials from the area.
For Correa “the spirit that guides this area is to reconnect with this profession that people think was lost. The luthería and the luthiers are still alive. These practices continue to occur and, through them, we want to bring people closer to the territory, through woods, resins, natural oils that have always been there, but we do not see them, so we want to re-identify with our space, but from this place ”.
From Combas they confirm the intention of opening the area to workshops for all ages; In addition, they are preparing a shop where they will sell instruments and their parts made with elements typical of the Llanquihue basin.
The activities, dated for the second semester of this 2021, will be informed through the Conservatory page www.combas.cl and its social networks, as well as the communication channels of the Integrated Territorial Program, Creative Destination Lago Llanquihue.
