First Afghan evacuees arrived in Heumensoord, received by local residents with flags

The first 21 Afghan evacuees have arrived at the emergency shelter in the Heumensoord nature reserve, in the woods near Nijmegen, the Central Agency for the Reception of Asylum Seekers (COA) reports. A group of about fifteen local residents was waiting for the buses with flags and welcome signs.

The arrival of the Afghans was delayed. Initially, the group would arrive on Sunday. Why they were later is unknown. A total of seventy evacuated Afghans today have to move from the Marine Etablissement Amsterdam to Heumensoord. Defense itself needs the terrain in Amsterdam.
