Latvian basketball player Roberts Freimanis has supplemented the Bulgarian basketball club “Akademik” in Plovdiv, the club reported over the weekend.
Freimanis has become the second addition to the Bulgarian club after the games in the four tournaments in which Akademik will take part this season, after the American “center” Ruot Monijonga. “Plovdiv’s Akademik has signed an agreement with Latvian Robert Freiman,” the club’s website said.
The 3-year-old Liepaja player with a height of 2.03 meters and a weight of 96 kilograms plays in the fourth position and last season he played for the Estonian club Raplas “Avis Utilitas”. As part of it, the team captain Freimanis, who won bronze in the Estonian championship, was included in the symbolic top five of the Estonian championship last season.
In the new season, Akademik will compete on four “fronts” – the Bulgarian Championship (NBL), the Bulgarian Cup, the Balkan League and the FIBA European Cup. Participation in the European Cup was secured by the club in third place in the Bulgarian Championship.
Before playing in the Rapla team, Freimanis spent one season in the “VEF Rīga” team, but before that the heavy forward represented “Ventspils” for a season and a half. During his career, Freimanis has also played for the Barons Quarter, Valka / Valga, Saldus and Liepāja teams.
