With five Paralympic medals to his credit, weightlifter Souhad Ghazouani, a paraplegic since birth, is one of the most successful active athletes. The resident of theASPTT Lille Metropolis, also a triple medalist at the world championships, once again tasted the joys of a fifth Olympiad in a row, at Tokyo, in the category of less than 73 kilos.
With five podiums in five Games, this is an incredible performance. At 39, she passed her challenge in Tokyo and as she points out: “If all goes well and nothing prevents me from going, I will go to Paris 2024 for the gold medal, God willing.”
ASPTT, his second home
Born in Saint-Saulve, near Valenciennes, Souhad Ghazouani, 34, discovered weightlifting at the age of 6. Then she quickly put her bags down at ASPTT Lille Métropole (weightlifters train at the Maryvonne Dupureur room, rue de Wazemmes). “My very first venue is where I am today. This is where I did my very first small competitions, and where my educator and trainer Sylvain Houzet introduced me to the bench press. I really like this room which I consider my second home. I don’t have only good memories ».

Category of -73 kg on Sunday August 29: bronze medal. She lifted 132kg.
