Dacia Sandero has become the best-selling car in Europe

Sales of new cars in Europe fell sharply in July, according to JATO Dynamics data from 26 markets on the Old Continent. In the seventh month, the decline was 24% compared to the same period last year to 967,830, or approximately at the levels of July 2012, when 966,090 vehicles were registered. Since the beginning of 2021, 7,381,735 cars have been registered – a 17% increase compared to the same period in 2020, but a 24% decrease compared to 2019.

Contrary to the general trend, Europeans are buying more and more low-emission cars. In July, a total of 160,646 electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids were registered, a total of 17% of sales. Electric cars account for 47% of them. Between July 2020 and July 2021, the market share of diesel cars decreased by eight percentage points and that of petrol cars by less than four to 59%.

In the model rankings, Dacia Sandero secured its first position for the first time since its launch in 2008. Thanks to the new generation, the small model recorded 15% growth in Germany, 24% in Romania and recorded first position in France and Spain.

Sales of the Romanian model fell by only 2% compared to July 2019, while leaders such as VW Golf, Polo, Dacia Duster, Toyota Corolla, Volkswagen Tiguan, Opel Corsa, Skoda Octavia, Peugeot 208, Mercedes A-Class and Renault Clio lost between 17 and 52%.
