Malaysian Inspector General of Police Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani said authorities had no information about the involvement of Malaysians in militant groups in Afghanistan.
“The Royal Malaysian Police have asked the overseas security agencies to confirm the reports as well as the allegations,” it said in a statement.

“An investigation is also underway to find out whether the report involves Malaysian Islamic State fighters who are already abroad,” he added. Reuters, Sunday (29/8/2021).
British publication The Times on Saturday had reported the arrests of six ISIS members, including two Malaysians, citing a Taliban official.
In the past decade, dozens of Malaysians have fled their country to fight with Islamic State in Syria and other countries, although some have been allowed to return under conditions set by the authorities. It is not clear how many are left overseas.
