The supporters of the right-wing party, Les Républicains (LR), gathered yesterday in the Maurice Leblond room in Maintenon. They met at a “political and friendly” party organized by the Republicans of the first constituency of the department.
The Republicans’ political comeback is marked by a question: who will represent the right in the presidential elections of 2022 and how will the candidate be appointed?
“The right will remain united”
Ladislas Vergne, deputy mayor of Chartres and Les Républicains delegate for the first constituency, explains:

“We don’t yet know how the right-wing presidential candidate will be chosen. Personally, I have bitter memories of the 2016 primaries and I don’t think it was the right option. The primaries had divided the right and that must not happen again. Today, we want to support and unite, without divergence. We are currently carrying out polls within the party and we will meet on September 25 to decide. And if there is a primary, the right will remain united. “

Discussions are moderated by Ladislas Vergne, the organizer, Olivier Marleix, deputy for Eure-et-Loir and vice-president of the Republicans, Chantal Deseyne, Eurelian senator, Raphaël Schellenberger, deputy of Haut-Rhin and deputy secretary general of the Republicans, Alexandre Avril, regional councilor and mayor of Salbris and Denis Payre, founder of the “Nous Citoyens” movement.
The topics covered revolve around ecology, the economy and abstention from elections. 140 Eurelian activists took part in this round table as well as in the concert, barbecue and aperitif that followed.
The supporters sipped Eurelian beer and lemonade, while Ladislas Vergne confided: “The right candidate to counter Emmanuel Macron is not a candidate, it is simply the right-wing party. We need a candidate who represents our ideas, no matter who he is, and there we can win, all together and by listening to the activists. That’s what this kind of meeting is for, to prepare for the future. “
